Student living: make the place look good for less!
We've all heard the student flat-share horror stories...rooms which breed new forms of life, strange unknown bacteria under beds – and worse – and cupboards which harbour deadly infestations of beer bottles growing nasty, green, stinking MOLD!
Then there are the sofas that are thriving with insect populations, curtains falling apart thanks to insect jaws and worse. Yet it doesn't have to be this way. For just a few pounds in the right place you can redecorate in a way that genuinely looks really good.
Here are a few tips, feel free to follow them and then pass them on.
1) Stop buying the expensive stuff, just stop, and get to the car-boot sales instead: so you've seen that original old horse insurance print which has a giant picture of a horse and a vet on it and you want it (it's the only insurance-based thing you have ever wanted, that's for sure). But it costs LOADS for what it is. So what do you do? Well, why not get your camera phone out, take a picture and then ask a friend to paint it for you. It'll not only be more personal but you'll put a smile on your friend's face too!
don’t do this until you’ve taken them outside and beaten the dust and rubbish out of them...
2) Use throws over your sofas: but don’t do this until you’ve taken them outside and beaten the dust and rubbish out of them. Also be sure to use a spray so you kill any insects that may still be calling the place home.
3) Use wallpaper in unusual places, it doesn’t just have to be for walls! You can also use it to cover tables, suitcases and anything else you want to give a funky new edge to. So don’t stop once you’ve started, this is your time my student scrimping friend! The other good thing about wallpaper is just how tough it is. So as well as acting as a great surface it’ll protect your stuff too -- win-win!
